Warranty extention questions
Hello,
My X41t is going to run out of warranty in June, 2009. I would like to extend its base 3 year warranty.
I have a few questions here:
The machine is UK based, can I extend the warranty in France?
What choice do I have? Plus 1 year or 2 years? How much would they cost usually?
Will it be ok if I do it just before the actual warranty ends in June or is there any "3 months in advance" deadline or something like that?
Any clue is appreciated!
Best Regards,
Tony

Re: Warranty extention questions
You should be able to find most of the information you are looking for from the following webpage. You can also look up your warranty and see when it expires. As long as you renew before the expiration date, there should be no problem. I have renewed the warranty on my T42 a couple of times. Not sure about the change of country.

Tony:
I suggest you review the threads Warranty 41C9180 for T43p and T42p warranty extension in France and Post-warranty service no longer offered (Central Europe)?. A little more than one year ago, I wanted to extend the warranty of a genuine Danish T42 (meaning that it had "Location" = Denmark). The only option I had at that time was a one-year extension; either courier pick-up or on-site (I chose the former, Lenovo P/N 10N3143); there were no longer extensions available, and once this extension has expired (which it just did), the warranty could not be extended any longer.. so that T42 is now out of warranty. The price for the 10N3143 (one year ago) was DKK 625, ex. VAT.
I recall being told some time ago by the Danish Lenovo "country warranty manager" that a European ThinkPad ("European" in the sense having warranty-location within the EMEA) which is covered under the IWS (IBM/Lenovo's International Warranty Service) will be covered within Europe; that is the EMEA region. Whether this mean that you can purchase a warranty extension in France for an "UK-based" ThinkPad, that I unfortunately don't know... you might will have to call and ask. As to when you shall do this I believe the rule is that the purchased warranty must only be registered within two weeks after purchase - maybe this post may shed some light on this question. Yup, this is correct; just checked a registration-mail received from Lenovo (although about one year ago) where is says: "The ThinkPlus/Lenovo Care Maintenance Services must be activated within 15 days after the purchase of the ThinkPlus/Lenovo Care Maintenance Service".

Tony:
In addition to the above post (and before I forget!) I just want to point your attention to the thread Thoughts about Thinkpad Warranty Upgrades (41C9180) and especially to the fact that I yesterday discovered that the five-year depot-service ThinkPad warranty (called "EZServ" in the USA, I don't know exactly what it translate to in Europe) is apparently also available in England, more precisely from here. It might be worth for your to investigate, because as far as I know the only (other) European ThinkPad warranty-extensions that are available are all only one-year... and since you can only extend the warranty once (at least as far as I have been told here in Denmark!), then it would of course be advantageous to get a five-year coverage through purchasing the 41C9180, which would mean that you extended the three-year base warranty by another two years! So, if the 41C9180 a) is indeed available in England, and b) if your UK-based ThinkPad will be covered throughout the entire EMEA-region (Europe, Middle-East, Africa) then that simply couldn't be better!
... depending, of course, upon the actual price of the 41C9180. By the way, wonder if you could purchase the 41C9180 in USA, e.g. at the cheapest place I have so far found --> Affinity Systems, Inc. and apply it to an EMEA-ThinkPad like yours?
Let us know what you end up doing - thanks!

Re: Warranty extention questions
Anyone dealt with these guys?

Do these work with out of warranty products that don't need to be repaired? (It's just for piece of mind)
Edit: Sorry, didn't see this.
