You may have noticed that the battery comes with it's own warranty, separate of your ThinkPad. Because used batteries are officially classified as "spent batteries" under the hazardous waste laws, they fall under difference governmental regulations. Thus sicne they are considered "hazardous waste" Lenovo is asked not to request the batteries to be shipped back to them. They ask the consumer to properly dispose of the battery to keep as many of them out of general transport as much as possible. It's all listed in the fine print of your warranty... :)

Cheers...

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I have had two keyboards sent to me in the past for two different ThinkPads (one very recently) and in both cases they don't want my old keyboard back!

Replying to the original poster:
1. Yes, the keyboard will get shiny eventually.
2. No, you should not mind it, because it is a sign of a long-lasting relationship you've had with the [censored] thing. A patina of wear. Do you know Leica users consider it chic when the black paint wears off their cameras (as opposed to collectors who admire theirs on a shelf)?
And...
3. (2a) If you bought it this way, just find a new keyboard.. it WILL bug you, I know for myself. Because if someone else have had a long-lasting relationship with the thing, it's not a patina anymore, it's just old and lousy :D
