Question on org hard drive and factory restore....

I have replaced the hard drive in my X31.
It came with a 40 gig and still had the org factory restore hidden stuff on it.
I replaced the 40 gig with a new 160 gig.All is fine in the X31 now.
But my question is i have a IDE external case that i put the 40 gig in.

It shows 34 gig's total. But if i format the drive will i loose the hidden stuff?
I like to keep it on there in case i want to put the 40 gig back in the X31.

I guess i'll have to just try it and see what happens.

If you format the whole drive, then yes, you will loose the hidden partition. But you can also format only the relevant partition, not the whole drive. In this case the hidden partition should remain in tact. However, I don´t know if you will be able to use it later. I can´t tell about X31, but on the later ThinkPads one needs to have the R&R predesktop area in order to be able to use the hidden partition for restore purposes. If R&R has been uninstalled from inside windows , then, to my best knowledge when I used R&R for last time, the predesktop area disappears or becomes useless.

I just see one partition on it now.
It's 34gig in size.

I just put the drive in the external case and formated the 34 gig .
I'm going to put it back into the X31 now just to see if the hidden stuff will mstill be there and and the Rand R stuff .

I just put back the 40 gig drive in the X31 and hit the "blue" IBM button on the top and it did went through the restore back to factory settings.
