Windows Security Warning - Probable Fraud

#1 Post by jdhurst » Tue Mar 31, 2009 8:50 am

The following email was in my spam bucket just now:

Subject: Windows Security Alert

To: Not to me directly

From: support@microsoft.net dsl-9-127.pld.com (dsl-9-127.pld.com [209.42.81.127])

Web site: http://0xdeba0981/?update.microsoft.com ... e/?florida

Take care and do not respond to this website. ... JDH

I think it was in the Opera forum yesterday or the day before when I answered a post where a user kept getting a message on his computer. He provided a link, and when I clicked on it, the page redirected and I got a warning, I believe from the Opera browser. I closed the page and told the user to check for malware. The link I clicked on looked very similar to the link you just posted. I cannot find that thread anymore, so maybe the mods moved it out of sight.

FWIW, I was in Linux at the time.
