Microsoft Concedes On XP ~ Windows 7 Downgrade Time Line

#1 Post by archer6 » Tue Jun 16, 2009 8:49 pm

An Excerpt:

"Update, 5:00 p.m.: A Microsoft representative said late Tuesday that the company has decided to extend the period for which Windows 7 machines will be eligible to downgrade to XP. Rather than a six-month window, as originally planned, the window will extend to either 18 months from the Windows 7 launch or until the release of the first service pack of Windows 7, whichever comes first."

I think 18 months is a reasonable conversion period for Businesses to migrate to W7. IMHO, extending the period from 6 months to 18 months was the result of some very me large customers making some very high level phone calls into Microsoft and asking WTF are you doing to me?

My thoughts as well. Frankly I was very happy to read that Microsoft came to their senses and took this approach. I was waiting for them to do this. It's in the best interest of MS and the users, a win / win scenario.

Cheers...
