Warranty/Thinkpad Protection Upgrade Questions

I have a quick question about the Protection Plans for Thinkpads (specifically the X200 Tablet). If you do not buy it immediately at the time of purchase, when are there other opportunities to purchase it. I thought I would be clever and see if it counted as an accessory (eligible for a coupon - haha, I can dream) but I can't find it on the Shop Lenovo web page. It's item number is 41C9338.

Update: I found this on the Warranty/Protection page (doh)

"ThinkPad Protection must be purchased within 90 days of the purchase of your new ThinkPad and your service term begins concurrently with the product warranty."

If I found the same plan on another computer web site shop, would it still apply to a computer I purchased directly from Lenovo?

Also, if I purchase an external DVD drive in the same transaction as the laptop, would it be covered by the warranty
