Quad core Thinkpad

#1 Post by proaudioguy » Sun Jun 28, 2009 6:41 am

Hey guys. I have to upgrade my X32 (I know what is an upgrade to that?) by the end of the year. The new software I'll be running requires a minimum of 2 cores 2GHz or higher. It will run stunningly on a quad core. It also needs a lot of GPU power and video ram. Will there be a Thinkpad with a quad core soon? The irony is even looking at outside solutions the only machines that fit that description are huge monsters intended for gamers. I don't need a huge screen, giant keyboard, or reduced battery time. I'll have the machine plugged into AC when using the software so that's not an issue but if I have to give up my X32 I'll want to use the new machine for other things as well.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions? Does anyone else have the same build quality?

I also think the quad-cores will be limited to the W series for now, and then the T series will see them next, possibly in the next generation. X series? Probably some day, but not soon.

When do you want to buy your new ThinkPad?
X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)

By the end of 2009 I'll definitely need one. I'm being pushed into a Macbook Pro, but if I could get a quad core thinkpad that is built like an A31P I'd be in laptop heaven. If I have to have a Macbook Pro I'm going to have to buy an IBM USB keyboard with trackpoint preferably not the ultranav version.
