Saving Youtube Videos
Saving Youtube Videos
I saw this tip on another forum, and I thought some members here might find it useful -
If you ever want to save a Youtube file. just add the word "keep" after the youtube part of the address.
As per this instance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HewUdGX ... re=related
http://www.youtubekeep.com/watch?v=_Hew ... re=related
You will be directed to a new page that offers you various download formats & qualities.
This works on all platforms. aka Mac, Windows, Linux etc

Re: Saving Youtube Videos
Why this difficulty?
Just take windows explorer, go to the mozilla cache folder, sort by date and the large file that was accessed latest is the movie. Rename it by adding ".flv" and voilà, your Flash Movie!

Re: Saving Youtube Videos
Typing 'keep' is difficult? Seems to me that navigating to a folder and renaming a file might take a few more steps, or maybe it's just me. Also, what if I do not want a flash video but an mp4 instead?
Re: Saving Youtube Videos
A similar link that allows you to download both the .flv and .mp4 version as well as HD when available -> http://keepvid.com/

I have a Firefox extension called Download Helper you can get from the Mozilla Firefox page. With this extension you can covert the download into a different format also.
It's pretty neat and I use it alot for my college courses that are in flv format

Re: Saving Youtube Videos
sadly thou, most of these solutions do not allow you download locked videos. but then they are locked for a good reason...
Re: Saving Youtube Videos
Downloading youtube video was never really difficult to start with. But Harryc's method is clearly much simpler than the one you are suggesting. It is something that I will feel comfortable telling my almost-60-year-old dad what to do if he asked. The site offers the option to choose between flv,3gp,mp4 format to download too, which I think is very nice.beeblebrox wrote:Why this difficulty?

The problem is, these sites got shut down very often, and sooner or later they will bed flooded with porn ads everywhere.

When you download youtube's FLVs, you support communism.

Wow, very nice! Thanks, Harry.
I also use Download Helper, which emeraldgirl08 mentioned - it's great because it works with most flash sites, not just Youtube. But Youtube is by far the most popular, so it's great to have the simpler method.

Re: Saving Youtube Videos
That's why I told you to go the mozilla cache folder and rename the cryptic movie with an nice name and add ".flv" and move the movie to your video folder.mattbiernat wrote:sadly thou, most of these solutions do not allow you download locked videos. but then they are locked for a good reason...
I understand that this is not an elegant way, compared to other ways mentioned here,
but hey... "It just works!"
Re: Saving Youtube Videos
Slightly off topic, but what is the location of FF3 v3.5 cache folder under Windows 7? (I assume it is a hidden folder somewhere under Users or AppData.)

Like you would have a problem with that!

No, but I was hoping you'd be so terrified by the mere prospect I could get more bandwidth from youtubegoofyGAguy wrote:> When you download youtube's FLVs, you support communism.
