Buying from lenovo internationally

#1 Post by jazzor » Tue Nov 17, 2009 8:39 am

Hi everyone.

I want to buy a X200 from the Lenovo USA website but they do not allow international credit cards. Is there any way around this? Do they offer wire transfers?

For those who care to read more, I am in Australia, and the Australian Lenovo site sells the same item for almost twice the price. I can get an x200 from the States, have it forwarded here AND still be 700$ under the price of buying here locally. Its just too much discrepancy to just give up. Why is there such a huge difference in prices (mind you the AU dollar has been strong for the last 6 months)? Is there another way I can take advantage of buying from the USA?

Thanks in advance.

Even if you could pay for it, Lenovo is not going to ship you a notebook to Australia. The other issue would be configure to order systems from Lenovo do not have IWS and you cannot add it later, which means you'd have no warranty in Australia. A pre-configured machine with IWS seems a better option. If you can find an online retailer that ships overseas. Maybe someone here knows one? eBay is another option if you can find a seller to ship it you. Good Luck.

Some of them do. You have to check carefully against the model number.

There are some "shopping" services that will buy goods in the USA and forward them to you, if that's what you really want to do (but in my personal experience the perceived savings are never realised in the longer run).

You might want to go to the Notebook forum at Whirlpool and look at the "Lenovo Discounts" thread for other solutions.

I was thinking the same thing as you this spring. A friend who lives in California could take the laptop with her to Denmark.
I called Lenovo, and they offered me the X200s I wanted, configured to my exact specs, and with the coupon I'd found. We agreed I'd wire transfer the money, and I did. Some days later my order was created, but again 14 days later it was deleted. This was caused by "insufficient funds". I tried for months to find out what was the problem, but noone at Lenovo could offer any assistance. It didn't matter if I emailed or called them, noone in Lenovo customer service would take any responsibility over the situation. In the end I couldn't stand waiting any more, and the deadline of my friend leaving California was too close. I decided to cancel the order, and they sent a cheque to my friend.
When I received the check it was the exact amount I originally transferred. So the conclusion is, they will drag you around like a dog and try their best to exhaust you untill you get crazy and demand a refund.
I wouldn't recommend wire transferring any money to Lenovo USA. Their customer service can't help you at all, and in the end you just end up more frustated, and with a loss of money (I lost ~150$).

I ended up buying an excellent X300 locally instead, for the same amount, so in the end everything worked out well.
