Wondering whether a Thinkpad that is privately sold may still receive warranty service, provided the warranty period hasn't elapsed. I've read some older posts (and some not-so-old posts) that indicate the warranty on a Thinkpad follows the machine, not the original purchaser.
In seeking to corroborate this on the Lenovo site, I found the Lenovo Limited Warranty-01, for Lenovo products sold after July of 2008, which states near the very top: "This Lenovo Limited Warranty applies only to Lenovo branded hardware products you purchased for your own use and not for resale."
I do note that the Limited Warranty statements for products sold prior to 2007 and for products sold between 2007 and July of 2008 both have similar statements. So either, this statement doesn't apply to a private sale like we find here or commonly on eBay, or the threads & posts I've read about the warranty following the machine are incorrect or outdated.
So is the Lenovo Limited Warranty still transferable? Am I mis-reading the above, or mis-understanding it? Perhaps it means only to exclude unauthorized commercial resellers, or perhaps it is simply not enforced in the way I am perceiving it.
Many thanks!
P.S. the warranty statements I'm referencing are here:

Re: Lenovo Limited Warranty still transferable?
My experience has been that as long as the warranty is still in effect as indicated on the warranty check page at Lenovo, then it will be accepted for repair. The owner is irrelevent.

Thats my opinion too. I recently bought an X61 off ebay and rang Lenovo to confirm this. I also rang them for some recovery discs which came last week for free. They only do that on warrenty machines. I have 10 months of a three year left.
X61 and (retired)600x.
