Where can I get a cheap ThinkPad?? (£70 - £100)

#1 Post by A31 » Tue Jan 26, 2010 1:25 pm

Hi all,
I've got a friend who wants a cheap second hand laptop, and I recommended a Thinkpad, however, I have been unable to find a cheap one that fits his price range (£70 to £100), and although I found this rather nice X31 on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IBM-THINKPAD-X31- ... 5885a04d83), he tells me that he does not have an eBay account. Which makes actually buying one a lot harder.

Does anybody on here know where you can source cheap ThinkPads from the UK and if you can find a link or something, I can give it to him...?
Thanks!

With such a small budget, i'd say ebay is his only option. If he doesn't have a pc local libraries offer internet access.

It takes all of about five minutes to open an account on eBay. Failing that, couldn't you just bid on it for him?

OK, when I see him tomorrow, I'll tell him he needs to get an eBay account...
Thanks! :D

From my experience of hunting ThinkPads on e-buy I would say that you should check some German hardware sellers as ThinkPads tend to be a bit cheaper there than in UK.

Also for those German shops you don't need ebay account, you just mail them or call them and they give you a quote. You then wire the money and they send you the notebook.

I gave up on creating ebay account (wants your account number, impossible if your bank is not in Germany...).
