warranty extension (europe)

#1 Post by ddx » Thu Mar 18, 2010 3:22 pm

The warranty on my x60s is going to expire in 1 week.
I had a look for the warranty extension : 10N3144
Additional 1 Year On-Site Service Next Business Day Maintenance Extension

But all webstores I found don't have the item in stock.
Can someone tell me if I can just order this and activate this if my warranty is already expired ? (since it won't be shipped before my warranty expires)

Hopefully this isn't too late...

I was able to get my warranty extension retroactively applied after the warranty expiration date had passed. The deciding date was the order date. However, it required a couple of emails to the seller of the extension as well as IBM/Lenovo, and I'm not sure if it's standard policy.

Note that the documentation which is physically shipped for the extension is not necessary to register the extension and have it apply to the machine. However, you do need the retailer to inform IBM/Lenovo of the purchase, and some places will use "not in stock" to mean they will not be able to do that either.

I've had a rather unpleasant experience with an e-tailer (AffinityIQ.com) who claimed the item as not in stock, and who may have proceeded to scam me. Be careful.

Everything I know about Lenovo's policies dictates, as qviri said, that the order date is the deciding date in determining whether the extention is valid or not. However, it may indeed require several emails/phone calls to be processed and activated properly.

The only thing I would worry about is that if you place the order, and for whatever reason they tell you (only after the expiration date) that your order cannot be executed, because the part type is not valid for the machine, or whatever. This is why I opted to take care of my warranty extension way ahead of time and to go directly with Lenovo and not a third-party retailer (e.g. Affinity). Typically Lenovo's prices start higher, but they often match (even though some reps will tell you they don't).
