IBM Warranty Parts lookup results : not serviceable ??

#1 Post by BBabe » Sun Feb 27, 2005 12:41 am

I'm hoping to buy a tp, hopefully an off lease that has an extendable warranty. Depending on the serial/model of the machine, the "parts look up" warranty results will sometime show that a part (ig 11P8255 11P8309 LCD PANEL 14.1 XGA) is not an IBM serviceable part. What exactly does that meanin terms of the customers warranty privileges. Does it mean I'm SOL if the part fails or that I'd automatically get a new replacement part?
Any clarification would help.
Thanks!

Non-serviceable parts, like LCDs, are replaced completely under warranty.

You can't service an LCD, there's nothing repairable inside it, all you can do is swap a new one for the broken one.

Whew! So basically non serviceable = new part. Thanks for the clarification.

One more question, the machine I'm looking at is an off lease
with a "special bid" three year limited warranty...special bid is another term I'm unclear about.

Special bid means that the units were originally part of a major purchase and were configured to meet a bid requirement.

Doesn't affect the warranty in the least.

Thanks for your help.
Although the machine I ended up purchasing is not a special bid I just wanted to update this thread in case anyone else has the same questions in the future. Unfortunately, "special bid" machines are not eligible for warranty upgrades/extensions:
http://www-1.ibm.com/services/us/index. ... 1480/dt001 and on first page of pdf http://www-1.ibm.com/services/us/its/pdf/wamomxeu.pdf
Hopefully there's a way around it.
