Which used Lenovo can take the most Ram?
Which used Lenovo can take the most Ram?
I am just curious, which lenovo can take the most ram. It seems that almost all laptops are using 1.6 Ghz processors so the biggest thing one can do to improve performance is to have a much ram going as possible. I would prefer it to be one that I can get used...
a tablet... an x61 would spark my interest if I can use more than 3G's, provided I can link it to some kind of GPS reciever. Also I something with a 16:9 screen would also spark my interest.

T61/X61 and anything newer can take 4GB or more of RAM and be able to use it.

You need a 64 bit operating system if you want to use more than 3 GB of RAM.

Max RAM (for now) in T61/R61/X61 and later ThinkPads is 8GB, but that's quite costly...4GB should be enough for most people implying "average" use...
Without knowing a bit more about T60 that you currently own and your user patterns/preferences, it's tough to advise whether you should go for a newer machine...

Re: Which used Lenovo can take the most Ram?
The difference between 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) operating systems is that x64 operating systems can handle more RAM and handle it more effectively than a x86 operating system, however, as most programs are not designed to take advantage of 64-bit processors and operating systems, there is usually no huge performance leap, sometimes performance is even nullified. x86 systems can only support up to 3GB or 4GB of RAM (I forget now, think it's 3GB), but x64 systems can take up to 128GB of RAM!
That's why if you want to run on 8GB of RAM, you need a 64-bit operating system. I've run 64-bit OS's on 2GB and 4GB of RAM very nicely indeed, but 8GB will be very quick. @vilasman, you'll have an atonishingly fast T61 there!!

@vilasman:
If you like the idea of a fast T61, believe me when I say that you'd like T400/500 or W500 even better...
