My T42p got ripped off. Don't know what to replace it with.

#1 Post by Uncletoad » Tue Apr 20, 2010 9:52 pm

My trusty T42p UGXA flexview with fingerprint reader got stolen. Crackheads. Now I need to replace it. I really like the high res flexview screen. Everything else is whatever. I don't get these widescreen thing. Doesn't seem to business to me. My 15" flex was the perfect size for my briefcase, a widescreen that wide would be to short.

So what is the last version of thinkpad that still had a 4:3 UGXA screen in a 15"?

The T42p is getting long in the tooth but I'm wondering if I should just try to find another.

Is there something better now?

PMFJI, but I concur with the widescreen thing. The current crop of WS's are just too short to be useful for working with documents and some graphics. I did procure a Lenovo G530 w/15.4" screen, but thankfully it's not one of those 16:9 versions. But still, I miss the "height" when working with documents.

I currently own a T40p (purchased used, in 2007). I like the slim design, and the 4:3 screen.

The T60, as someone has already mentioned, seems to be our last hope for replacements.

T60p. Is that compatible with T42p in that I could put in my old cloned T42p hard drive and let it do it's thing or is that a whole new system I'd have to work from the ground up?

The T42 HD will not work in the T60p. Besides...you can buy a huge HD for peanuts these days.

IIRC, the T40's have PATA hdd interfaces, and the T60 have SATA. But, I seem to recall that T60's can support a PATA hdd caddy in the ultrabay?

I recently procured a T60 for a friend of mine. 14" SXGA+ (1400x1050). The keyboard was not the same (and wonderful) feel as my T40p. But it was a nice pc none the less.
