T23 Laptop Ram?

#1 Post by ecogenie » Wed Aug 11, 2010 6:08 pm

My T23 laptop has a virtural memory problem. I have 256 ram in it now. Want to max it out. What is the max that I can put in it and how do I go about doing it? Is there a certain memory stick or sticks I need to purchase? What do pins mean? How do I know if I need 133 or 144? Is there a certain way to put it in without any problems? Read where someone changed out and the laptop would not come back on no matter what they did. This is all new to me. Where is the best place to get the ram that I will need? Thanks!!! :bow:

Welcome to the forum!

T23 will take up to 2 x 512MB PC133. Might be a good idea to put a wanted to buy ad in our market place. Someone is bound to have a stick or two for sale.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

If not here in the Marketplace Forum, try eBay. Reckon about $21-24 per 512MB RAM module.
I've successfully bought several times from this eBay seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/512MB-PC133-SDRAM-S ... 0546524733

Guess we shall see how good this ebay seller is because I just ordered two 512 sticks from them. Is there a special way to install them so that all goes well? Thanks for all the help!!! :banana: :thumbs-UP:

The modules have a slot, so you can only insert them in one way.

Guess what I am asking is will I lose all my info from my memory sticks I pull out or will I have to save it before pulling them out? Not sure how all this works.

Nothing to worry about there. All data in RAM memory is lost every time the computer is shut down anyway, it's not storage, that's what your hard disk drive is for.

Learn something new every day. So what will all the extra memory do for my laptop? :?

Before you remove the old and insert the new RAM, switch off the laptop and remove the powercord.
The extra RAM will let you run all programs faster, and multitasking will be made easier.
Also, you should have less "hits" on the hard disk, because more data is stored in RAM rather than in the pagefile on the hard disk.

PLUS, it'll give you that warm, fuzzy feeling, that you have maxed out the memory of your beloved laptop :mrgreen:

Folks, the happy seller still has this memory approx 53 for a 512MB module. Now I'm trying to find 1GB T30 / T40 modules - since kingston seems to have discontinued all of theirolder memory...

RThanks for the heads up RBS. %3 per looked like a lot but it was less than Crucial's current charge of $75 for a 512MB module.

Then i went onto fleabay and found real Kingston modules. KTP-TP133 is the most scarce though, i only found a couple of those, but i got all the T22 256MB and T30 1GB modules i'll ever need, and it's all real Kingston.
