It will work, but it depends on the models of keyboard. The different variations use different cap designs, and they're not all compatible.

I guess I am biased, but out of the ones I own/owned (760C, 760XD, 770ED, 570E and currently the A31), the A31 is my favorite. It has everything I like.... it's thicker, heavy, feels 1000% solid, and it seems to run cool. And it looks great sitting on my desk opened or closed, certainly better than my Presario CQ60. The 570E was ok, but was simply too thin for me, it felt I could snap it in half if I tried. Now if this included the iBook and my Lombard PowerBook, then it would be MUCH harder to pick my 2nd favorite.

Lenovo ThinkPad L420 (2.5 2520m i5, 4GB RAM)

Dell Latitude D530 (2.4 T7700 C2D, 8GB RAM, 60GB SSD, Win 8.1)

Best looking would be A31p or T23 with maybe a 390x a distant third. For mobile use I would hate to have to carry an A31P anywhere.

The 600 series is perfect for on the go or an old 310ED during the 1990's. I hope you used a laptop bag, makes the weight easier to deal with.

We got into the ThinkPad game fairly late, and none of us really bought into the 600-series concept, although I have a tremendous respect for that generation. And yes, of course we used the big bulky IBM leather cases back in those dim, dead days... :)

A3x design took no prisoners...people either loved it or hated it. A decade later, it's still pretty darn impressive in my book...let alone brave and ahead of its time, but I know I'm being prejudiced here, so I'll zip it... :jhem:

i'm prejudiced, too.
my a31p introduced me to uxga flexviews and i love 'em. it was also pretty cool to a31p's on the space station. for their time, they were really serious machines. for some purposes, they still hold their own, quite well. now, i'll get off my soapbox...

Ahhh, hardware dimming switch... Why they get rid of it in modern notebooks? :(

No need, I guess. The backlight control in current ThinkPads is (at least partially) handled by the BIOS IIRC, so it can work independent of the OS.

IMHO, there's no compelling reason for a hardware control when a software one (like the current implementation) works just fine.

Hardware mixer controls, on the other hand...

Best looking ThinkPads in Lenovo generation:

X200 series (including Tablet)
X300 series

Best looking ThinkPads in IBM generation:

R50p
S30
T43
Transnote
X32
X41

It's harder to design bigger-sized laptops. I think the ThinkPad formula works well for the X series. They need to find newer inspirations for their bigger models.

Z61t has always intrigued me. I saw one in a restaurant and I had to sneak a few peeks without creeping the guy out. 8)

Why didn't they continue production of ThinkPads with titanium lids? I know they had durability issues with the coating, but that could be fixed. Were they just not popular enough?

IMHO they are too fat and bulky.
If I remember correctly, they are even thicker than an R60.

Wow. I had that wrong, I meant the Z61m with the titanium lid. I just looked now, travel weight with a 6 cell would be about 8 lbs, 1.5-1.6in thick! That's bigger than my R40.

It would be nice if they could work around that, if they took a thin and light and added a titanium cover it wouldn't be so bad, I would think.
