Replacement for T60 and A31

#1 Post by chuck6209 » Wed Mar 02, 2011 3:44 pm

My T60 and A31 were stolen recently during a burglary. I have replacement cost coverage on my homeowner's insurance and am not familiar enough with Lenovo's current product line of Thinkpads to suggest replacements for the two laptops to my insurer. I would appreciate any suggestions from forum members.

Replacement for T60 and A31

Chuck:

Very sorry to hear about the theft... but at least "nice" that you had an insurance covering this. :?

You ask for advice about a replacement for one or both (??) of your stolen ThinkPad's, and while I'm sure that there are many forum members who would like to give your their advice etc., I suggets you provide us with a bit more information, such as: What is the intended usage of your new ThinkPad(s) incl. how you rate the following parameters:

1. The display form factor (are you equally satisfied with the classical 4:3 format and with the new widescreen 16:9 models),

2. The LCD quality (do you e.g. know what FlexView/IPS is?),

3. The maximum LCD brightness and contrast (do you e.g. need your laptop to be usable outdoors, in direct sunlight?),

4. Speed/performance or "power" of CPU and/or GPU; simply: What is the anticipated use of the laptop?

5. Size and speed or harddrive (do you need e.g. 1 TB of storage and do you know what a SSD, solid-state disk, is?),

6. Any requirements about mimimum battery time?

7. Maximum size and weight?

8. Other requirements or "wants" and/or "not wants"?

9. How long warranty do you want to pay for?

10. Are you interested in/willing to buy a good, used ThinkPad, or does it HAVE to be a brand new one?

11. And, of course (you also forgot to inform about this!): Your budget?

I kindly would like to point your attention to a recent thread here on the forum, which I trust that you will benefit from reading; see T60 - the best Thinkpad ever made?. Also, have a look at the new ThinkPad x120e and see if it might be of your interest? A few recent reviews on the x120e include these: Lenovo ThinkPad X120e review (engadget) and see the reviews: Lenovo ThinkPad X120e Review: AMD Fusion Infused and cnet review on Lenovo ThinkPad X120e and LaptopMag review on Lenovo ThinkPad X120e (AMD Fusion) and PCWorld review on Lenovo ThinkPad X120e.

Please update us with your input! :-)

The current series "replacing" the T-Series (T60) is the T-Series. I'd say the T60 15 inch is replaced by the T520, the T60 14 inch is replaced by the T420.

The A-Series was advertised as the more powerful computer compared to the T-Series? Then the current replacement is the W-Series. If the A31 has a 15 inch display, the replacement is the W520.

I am not sure how your insurance takes the value degradation into account.
