Booting from PCMCIA card

A very long time ago I remember being able to boot up from a PCMCIA card - possible an IBM Microdrive in a ThinkPad 600, but I can't remember what I did. Does anyone know how to do this?
My ThinkPad Graveyard:
600 * 2, X220, X61 * 2, T61
