Battlefield 3 on thinkpad w500.graphics issues.

I have Thinkpad w500 t9400 with 8gb ram.
I am able to play COD Black Ops, and Battlefield bad company 2 at medium/low settings.
I have installed Battlefield 3 for play test, and as i expected, it was very slow, so i try putting the graphics settings to low, but for a reason, when i press the graphics option, nothing happens.no other menu or options appear.
i have noticed some BUGS during game play such as "invisible" enemy at the train in the beginning of the game(quite funny seeing a knife floating in air and trying to stub me
).
could be that the graphics bugs are appearing also in the settings menu?(invisible menu)
I have noticed that the Config files are inside the path:
\Battlefield 3\Data\Win32
If not, i would like to ask if someone can save his settings at lowest graphics 800X600 and upload the settings files to share it with me? so i can try replacing them to see if that works
Thank you very much.

Does anyone know if there any way to change the graphics to low by editing some config files? i noticed they are "Gibberish".default_settings_Win32.sb
default_settings_Win32.toc
