ThinkPad HD+ Displays with 1600x900 pixel resolution

#1 Post by Matthew_Greening » Sun Dec 11, 2011 6:07 pm

I would like to hear from all T520 / W520 / L520 owners who have a HD+ display with 1600x900 pixel resolution. What do you think about your displays?

I am asking because reviews report quite different display quality.

The NotebookCHECK review of the T520 provides a positive assessment:
Information
Gossen Mavo-Monitor

Maximum: 231 cd/m²
Average: 193.8 cd/m²
Brightness Distribution: 70 %
Black: 0.33 cd/m²
Contrast: 670:1

The NotebookCHECK review of the W520 comes also to a positive conclusion:
Information
Gossen Mavo-Monitor

Maximum: 236 cd/m²
Average: 217.9 cd/m²
Brightness Distribution: 87 %
Center on Battery: 236 cd/m²
Black: 0.36 cd/m²
Contrast: 656:1
Source:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Len ... 220.0.html

However, the German Notebookjournal.de review of the T520 display reports a completely different contrast:
Average: 193 cd/m²
Contrast: 158:1

Apparently, Lenovo is using two different HD+ panels for the L520 / T520 / W520.

I would also like to know whether you have experienced any issues with the fan at your ThinkPad machine and how you have solved it.

Do you know any other detailed reviews of the 15.6" ThinkPads?

Thanks!

I own a T510 with the HD+ 1600x900 LED backlit screen. Everyone that sees it comments very positively. I love it! :D

The fan runs very quietly too.

So I guess I have a bad copy of HD+ on my T520.
It has some strong blue tint. When I try to decrease blue tint I loose white color. So it is definitely not an excellent quality the screen for such a premium laptop like T520. Must I replace it with another HD+ (free of charge) or should I try FHD (I must pay for the display but the installation is free of charge)? I want to know if other users experience the same problem in T520.

Have you calibrated it?

I have it. Compared to my macbook pro screen, thr hd+ is quite mediocre. Very blue, and calibration doesn't fix it. I can live w/ it but it's not a joy to use.
