How to tell if a Thinkpad has an IPS screen?

Hi, I am trying to figure out how to tell if a Thinkpad has an IPS screen.
I found this link that appears to list all the Thinkpads that have Flexview/FFS & IPS TFT Displays.
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/TFT_displ ... _.28IPS.29
What I want to know is which of these have IPS displays and if I was looking to purchase one, how could I tell it had one if it happened to be unspecified?
Thank you.

Pus the screen all the way back, if the colors don't invert, it's IPS.
Here's a review of the T60p with the UXGA FlexView(IPS). About half way down there's a bunch of pictures of the IPS next to a Dell. You'll see what I mean.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.
What I meant was, how could I tell if I was ordering one online? Are there any specific things to tell if a Thinkpad model is the one with an IPS display if it's not specified?

The only new ThinkPad with an IPS screen is X220, and this is an option that has to be specified when ordering one...
If you're after an older machine, what generation are you interested in?

All generations. I just want to know which Thinkpads, historically, have IPS displays and how tell they have them without seeing it in person.

All A30p, A31p and R50p (UXGA)
All 15" T42p, T43p, T60p (non-widescreen)
All 15" SXGA+ T42, T43, T60 and R51
Some 15" SXGA+ A31 units
And, of course, tablets...X41, 60, 61...

For the tablets, do all versions have IPS or only certain one?

OK, that's where stuff gets somewhat complicated...
X41T, X60T and X61T have conventional IPS/AFFS screens.
X200T has a Hydis AFFS if it's a CCFL-backlit version, but not always...LED-lit uniuts are Samsung (I believe) PVA...
Not versed enough on X201T and X220T to say much of anything.

IIRC, at least some of the X200Ts were equipped with CCFL-backlit PVA panels (also Samsung). I'm not sure of the FRU(s), since the one that I came across didn't have one (though it did have a space for one.)

ThinkRob is correct and I guess I should've been more precise in describing the screens used on X200T...
My understanding - which might be incorrect - is:
a) All LED-lit panels are PVA and not AFFS
b) Early CCFL-lit units were shipped with Hydis AFFS panels
c) Later CCFL-lit units were equipped with Samsung PVA panels, whether matte or glossy.
Once again, I have very limited experience with these machines and others might offer a better insight....

Some X60T units had TN screens, according to the Tabook. Never actually saw any of these, or even heard anyone mention they had seen them.

Interesting. I'm looking through an old tabook here. For machine types 6363 or 6364, which are marked Education, for the display, some say Super Wide Angle FFS or Twisted Nematic while others say Twisted Nematic only.

I've owned several 6363 tablets and *all* of them had AFFS panels...

I wouldn't doubt you for a second, but it does say that in the tabook.

I have had two pen only XGA screens both of which were Samsung PVA panels, definitely not TN, but also not AFFS.
Its one of the reasons why people consider the multitouch screen brighter than the pen only (both XGA types)......its not the same panel, hence the difference
