Come on, do you want to destroy your USB port with this crap? I highly recommend quality USB drives like Dvico Momobay or drives from Onnto. Your Thinkpad should it be worth
T40p 2373-g1g: 1.6 GHz, 1536 MB RAM, 160 GB @ 5400 rpm drive, 64 MB Video, IBM a/b/g II, CD-RW/DVD Combo II, M10 Fan, Ubuntu 8.04

OK, I'll admit it - I am completely baffled by your first sentence. How exactly is the enclosure harmful to the port?s0larian wrote:Come on, do you want to destroy your USB port with this crap? Greg,
The fact that some laptops can power an external HD with one connector is the exception, not the rule.

James
Actually they did anticipate powering a 2.5" HD when they developed the spec., but only when using two USB connectors or a PS2 auxiliary connector to provide sufficient power.gregpilot wrote:I am not positive but I don't believe the USB specs comtemplated powering a HDD from the port itself. External power is safer.
Just my opinion.

Not really beyond showing what the ports are designed to provide and showing the approximate draw of connected devices based on their design criteria.RBob wrote:Do the USB port power figures given by WinXP's Device Manager have any relation to reality?
I don't believe it can show you the actual draw on each port, but I could easily be wrong.
