Beginner's Guide to Computers

I'm a techno-peasant who would like to understand the basics of computers, esp. Thinkpads. I have a T-43 (sort of). I picked up a book by Kris Jamsa, RESCUED BY UPGRADING YOUR PC, Fourth edition (2002: I couldn't find any later editions on Amazon). This book is helpful, though it's 10 years old. I'm hoping to get a recommendation or two about how best to proceed to acquire a very basic understanding of computers and their maintenance.
Thanks in advance for any & all replies.

Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad.

as odd as it may seem, wikipedia is an excellent resource for computer hardware related things, especially their operation and basic hardware. I get lost on wikipedia frequently, don't forget to take notes too! good luck!
