I have a quick question. I think I just replaced lenovo bios with middleton. Since they are both the same version # 2.22, how can you tell if the installation was successful? Do you see something like Middleton in the BIOS if it is successful? Thanks.

AFAIK there's no indication in the version no.
Cheers.

If the machine reboots after the BIOS flashing, then everything is OK.
There are no 'signs' or 'telltales' anywhere, other than your knowing you flashed it.

Thanks Guys. As you said, there were really no signs. To make sure I did it right, I flashed the Lenovo BIOS back from 2.22 to 2.21, then used Middleton 2.22 to flash it again. Now I know it worked because the version number changed from 2.21 to 2.22. My x61 seems to perform better with the Middleton Bios.

you can check for SLIC 2.1 with a program like AIDA64. if it says SLIC 2.0, then it's still on the lenovo BIOS. also if you have an SSD, run a benchmark (HD tune would work) and the speeds should be over 130 MB/s, assuming the SSD can read that quickly.
