Thinkpads : same Type = same Drivers ?

#1 Post by thinktwice » Mon Jun 04, 2012 11:45 am

All my question is summarized in the title.

For instance, given two T42 thinkpads a T42 2373-62G and T42 2374-EK1, are the same drivers used on both (if we except the small differences like Bluetooth) ?
Just an exemple amongst others.

On Lenovo's website, one can access the right drivers by entering the laptop's type.

But my feeling is to always download the same drivers for laptops of the same major type (like T42), which is both a loss of time and environmentally stupid.
If I could avoid downloading twice the same without any risk, it would be nice.

Can someone working at Lenovo bring an "official" answer to this?
Thank you.

Apart from the Video drivers (ATI or Intel graphics), all T40/T41/T42 and R50/R51 can use the same drivers, if for the same OS.
T43/R52 use a different set.

Ask in the Market forum to buy a set of restore CDs (specify ATI or Intel).
