Blue Ray player for T42 Thinkpad

#1 Post by white avenger » Thu Jun 14, 2012 3:57 pm

This may be a question that has been asked and answered before, but I can't find it, so, please bear with me.

I have an IBM Thinkpad T42 that I would like to play Blue Ray movies in, either with an internal drive (preferably) or a USP connection. I don't want to write either regular CD's, DVDs, or Blue Ray discs in it, this is strictly to play music or movies when I travel.

My T42 has a 160gb hard drive and 2gb of ram, which is about as far as my computer expertise goes, so if there is anyone here who could help me, please keep the answer as simple as possible.

They never made a 9.5mm PATA Blu-ray drive. If you want to switch to a R5x ThinkPad, the Blu-ray drive from the R61 will work in one of those machines, but I doubt a T4x or R5x machine has enough processing power to watch a Blu-ray smoothly. My R60 did not and that had a dual core T7400. The CPU always ran between 95-100% of capacity during playback. The GPUs of that generation can't help with decoding either so it all falls onto the CPU.

Buy a portable BlueRay player with a HDMI cable, to connect to the TV in your hotel room.

Let The Board Room do a SATA-Mod for you (T43/R52 only)! Click here for more info.

What an endorsement! Thanks, ajkula66! The T43 that IBM never built - but we did - HUGE PICS

This isn't an option, since my laptop 12 a T42, not a T43, that I bought on Ebay for under $100 and really not worth the price of conversion. I guess I'll have to either carry around a portable player, which I was trying to avoid, buy a more modern computer, or stick with regular DVDs or internet downloads.

That's a part of RBS' signature, NOT his recommendation to you...
