Selling ThinkPad T420i. What is it worth?

#1 Post by jmanes » Thu Jun 28, 2012 6:25 pm

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. I am wanting to sell this ThinkPad T420i and buy an x230 but I have no idea what it is worth.

1600x900 HD+ display

120 GB Intel 320 SSD

8GB DDR3 RAm

Intel i3 - 2310M

HD Webcam

Intel Centrino Ultimat N 6300 wireless.

Great condition. What do you think it is worth guys?

I think the processor hurts the price a bit. Based on what machines on the outlet have been selling for the last few weeks I'd say $500-$550 if it has warranty left else more like $450.
Thinkpad T420 | Core i-5 2520M | 16gb RAM | 120gb Intel 520 SSD + 750gb 7200 RPM | 6300 N | Ubuntu 12.04 x64
Desktop: AMD FX-8350 (8 cores) | 32gb ECC RAM | 240gb Intel 530 SSD + 1tb 7200 RPM | Ubuntu 14.04 x64 | HP ZR24w
Previous Thinkpads: A21m, R40, X61, T410

Wow that is it?... even with an SSD? Sheesh! The SSD is only a month old. I wonder why Macs have such high resale. I see used MacBooks from 2010 selling for like 700.

because apple people are paying for the name, more than the actual quality of the product?

apple is over-priced rubbish in my opinion. at least you get what you pay for with a thinkpad... mines has out-lasted 2 new laptops, which is why I'm getting my old T23 working again, and when I can afford it, buy a more powerful one and (try) upgrade it myself :)

I hear you. I'd consider keeping the SSD and selling it with the mechanical drive and use the SSD in your new X230. You can remove the spacer on top and just replace the screws with shorter ones available online. You *may* get a bit more for it with the SSD - but likely not enough to warrant including it if it's a month old.

I would also suggest selling the laptop without the SSD, or any aftermarket upgrades you've done to the machine, for that matter.
X60 tablet 6363-P3U, 3GB ram, 128GB SanDisk Extreme SSD, SXGA+ screen, Intel 6300
T61 Frankenpad in 15 inch T60 body, UXGA LED-lit AFFS LCD, T9300, 6GB RAM, NVidia NVS140m, Intel 6205, 128GB Crucial M4 SSD, 1TB HGST HDD + eBay caddy in Ultrabay
701c butterfly, 75MHz 486DX4, 40MB ram, 1GB CF card

Not sure if I consider them rubbish. I think they are good laptops. I considered getting one for my next college semester. Apple would give me a 50 dollar iTunes card with my purchase... *rolls eyes*

The X230 I could get for 950 with an i5, ips display, bluetooth 4, etc. So Lenovo likes college kids a lot more I guess.
