I purchased a "LCD-not working" R61i from ebay with a integrated video chip (7650-8CU), thinking it's as simple as replacing the inverter or CCFL bulb to make it work again. It turns out it's far more complicated than I thought.
After I did the usual inspection/cleaning of the unit (replacing the thermal paste, check the board and overall condition, etc), I noticed there are several screws missing with the LCD front bezel and the upper casing bezel (the frame surrounds the keyboard) were mis-aligned so I guess the previous owner was trying to fix it himself but did a subpar job putting it back together. No biggie.
When I turn the laptop on, the screen flashed and went black, the fan spinned. There were no indicator lights on the LCD front bezel. So I thought "Oh-oh....one of those trouble motherboard fuse and LCD cable/inverter/controller thingy", according to the discussions of similar problems in this forum back in 2010/2011.
I don't know how to check the fuse on the motherboard, so the next step I did was remove the LCD assembly and install it on my spare R61i, a known good-working machine. When I turned the power on, the video below shows what happened:

My question: which components should I test next? If it's something complicated should I just use this machine as a head-less unit? I don't want to put any good LCD panel on the first machine in case the blown fuse caused the same problem to my working screen.
