IBM T42 USB ports

I have damaged the USB port on my laptop - is there any way of replacing it (one of my dogs sent my lappy flying one day and there was something attached to the usb port and it bent it + the other one doesn't seem to be working well any more).
I used my old non-functioning T40 to replace the dvd drive but not sure if I can do same with usb

If you are good with a soldering iron, you should be able to transfer the USB ports off your T40 to the T42.

Even easier is to get a PCMCIA USB adapter. They work fine, but you can't boot from USB with 'em. At least my X40 won't.
