After Reformatting: Can No Longer Backup to 2nd Hard Drive

#1 Post by BOHICA » Thu Apr 28, 2005 2:58 pm

It appeared to me that my daily backups of my T42 to a 2nd Hard Drive in a Dock II using ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery were accretive (that one back-up was stacking against the preceeding one, rather than a meshing of the dissimilar portions between each backup).

To be sure, I opted to delete my previous backups and begin again to count the difference in hard-disk storage. I wanted to just delete the backups, but it wasn't obvious how to do that. So I reformatted my 2nd harddrive. However, now when I try to back up using the 2nd hard drive, the ThinkVantage software tells me about 5 or 10 seconds into each effort that the backups weren't successful.

There must be a missing vital step to re-formatting my 2nd drive. Can anyone here lend a hand? Thank you for any assistance.

Thanks for the response.

In case anyone else has encountered this problem, I downloaded IBM Rescue and Recovery Version 2, which apparantly doesn't come pre-installed with the ThinkPads and DOES NOT get listed as an update for potential download if you use the Software Installer program.

In any case, this solved the problem.

Customer support says that version 2, which is available at IBM's website, is a bit more stable than version 1.

Here's the link:

Version 1 must be deleted prior to installation of version 2, and the entire deletion/addition process seems to take about 20 minutes.
