USB hub question

#1 Post by tttttada » Sat Apr 30, 2005 7:57 am

I'm planning to buy the T43 after the "minor refresh" in May. I was going to buy a USB Hub to accomodate all of my peripherials which are

1) USB mouse
2) USB external Harddrive
3) 8 in 1 media reader
4) Web Cam
5) Printer
6) Ipod

I came across this post in notebookforums.com
A USB hub allows allows USB1.1 and USB 2 devices to commuicate at the speed of the slowest device. For example if you take a USB2.0 HDD and a USB mouse and plug both into a USB switch both devices will operate at there defined speed, the Hdd up to 480Mbs and the mouse at 1.5Mbs. If you plug both into a USB Hub then the Hdd will only operate at the speed of the mouse being 1.5Mbs.
Someone please tell me this is not true.

I can't confirm that's really true, but I've heard it as well.

there are 2 USB ports on the thinkpads...why not just get 2 hubs?

a 4 port and a 2 port.

most likely the webcam the ipod and the usb harddrive and the printer the 2.0's and then the other 2 can be used in the 2 port.

So as long as I keep the USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices seperate there shouldn't be a problem?
