I have IBM T40 and wife have IBM R50e - stopped there didn't watched laptop scene last 5-10 years...now thinkig to buy faster one second hand.
If I remeber correctly:
- T61with nvidia gpu - what is chance of gpu failure?
with intel gpu there is no support for dxva? (about 200e nvidia gpu second hand, little cheaper intel gpu)
- T500 - If I remember there was lot of complains about poor keyboard build??? (about 250e intel gpu second hand)
- T510 - everything ok? (about 400e intel gpu second hand)
t61 vs t500 vs t510

Re: t61 vs t500 vs t510
Do bear in mind that T510 is a 16:9 LCD while the others are 16:10 - may or may not be a big deal to you.
A keyboard on *00 series can be replaced by a non-perforated one from 60/61 units.
As for the T61, units built after 08/08 are deemed safe when it comes to nVidia models.

Re: t61 vs t500 vs t510
Since you mentioned dxva, I have a couple of T61 with Intel GPU. Plays 1080p MKV with media player classic without any problem.
Personally I like the T400/500 series. Fast CPU, good price in the used market, DDR3 and native SATA II so adding a SSD is no problem. A lot of accessories from the T61 series are compatible with T400/500 series which is a bonus in the used market too.
