Blown MoBo/power supply from new CPU?

#1 Post by samsonite » Sat Dec 29, 2012 12:51 pm

I just put a new cpu into my thinkpad t61. I upgraded from the 1.8 to the 2.2, and when i booted the computer froze during the windows splash screen. i tried booting again and went into the bios to clear the CMOS, and the computer promptly died. now it will not start, absolutely nothing happens when i press the power button. it is the same story whether i am on battery power or outlet. also, when plugged in, the charging light doesnt light up. could the new cpu have blown my power supply or motherboard? sorry for the poor writing. i am doing this from my cell phone.
Thinkpad T42, Type 2373
1.7GHz Intel Centrino, 1.5GB RAM
Windows XP Professional

Give us some more details, like exact CPU, 7-character TYPE of your laptop, do you have an official IBM/Lenovo power supply and battery?
Did you change anything else?
Did you apply new thermal paste?
