3G modem - use generic or rebranded Lenovo?

#1 Post by czatlantis » Fri Mar 08, 2013 6:03 am

Hello, I want to buy 3G modem for my X220i Tablet. I know I have to buy correct model number but can I just buy generic Ericsson F5521gw or I have to buy some version "Ericsson F5521gw for Lenovo"? I mean if they are rebranded from lenovo and have different firmware or some identificator compared to regular Ericsson F5521gw I can buy much cheaper off ebay.
I dont want to modify BIOS
Thanks

If you don't want a modified BIOS, then you HAVE to buy wifi parts with a Lenovo P/N or FRU.
Anything else will most likely not work.

So they are not only rebranded but also have modified firmware? Can anybody confirm that? Because they are like 3 times more expensive and that is too much for me...

They have at least different VID and PID, and possibly different firmware.

Why do you think they came up with a modded BIOS?
