2 questions: Access Connections - External Monitor on boot

#1 Post by rebop » Tue Mar 12, 2013 12:08 am

FINALLY got my new W530 configured and fixed the 2 showstopper issues preventing me from making the cut over. I am now using it daily but two oddities have popped up. BTW, Win 7 64 bit.

1. I have two profiles saved in Access Connections, one wired and one wireless. When I boot, it connects to wired, but then asks me if I want to save this configuration as one of my locations? It already IS and even shows that hovering the tray icon.

Why is this and how best to respond to it.

2. When I boot docked now, there is NOTHING on the screen until it is time for my password. No Thinkpad Screen,. nor Windows screen. I actually would like to see these to mark progress. How do I get them as I had on my T61 and as I see when undocked on this W530?

Thanks!!

Can't answer (1) since I don't use Access Connections, but about (2) - go to the BIOS and in Display options you can choose the boot device. Make sure Thinkpad LCD is there.

Thanks, but maybe I was not clear. If I am undocked, then no problem - all the normal sequence of screens are on the laptop LCD. But if docked, nothing on the external monitor until the password prompt. Just blank.

I would think there would be a default when docked that would be implemented.

At any rate, off on bis in the morning so if you are stil pointing me to the same place, I'll have to try next weekend.

Thanks!

In which case, make sure that the external display (DVI, VGA or whatever it's connected to) appears in the boot display list. :)

Thanks But then if I have other wired connections I will not get auto switching such as home and work.

What has me confused it AC seems to know this is already a saved connection.

Just getting around to this and have not tried yet. But I understand for this to work, I have to have Discrete graphics selected and lose the power savings of Optimus. And if I do go that route - reluctantly - will I still have boot screens on an undocked device as well as on the external on DVI when docked?
Thanks.
