1. Does an X60/61/t have enough power to do a lot of drawing in GIMP 2.8 running Ubuntu 12.10 x64 or should I go with an X200/t?
2. Will the tablets (X6x or X200) force me to hover my palm above the screen when using the stylus, or will the tablet ignore my hands resting on the screen while I draw?
3. Anyone who has one of these tablets care to share their experience using the stylus – particularly in Ubuntu?

I got a couple of X61T with a sxga+ screen and love it. The sxga+ screen is pen only (no touch) which I find is a benefit when writing as I can rest my paws on the screen and write as I normally would.

I've loaded it briefly with Linux Mint 14 but have since switched back to Win 7. It's plenty fast enough for Win 7. It also ran Mint without difficulty.

Whatever you go with I recommend allowing some in the budge for at least 4 GB of ram and a SSD. The SSD will give you the biggest improvement in the overall computing experience.

There's a really nicely spec X61T in the marketplace.

For 2: Windows most certainly does proper palm rejection with an active digitizer, i.e. you don't have to hover your palm even if the screen supports finger touch. I can't test Ubuntu, however, since my X60t does not support finger touch at all. (In fact, AFAIK most X60t/61t/200t models are pen only.)

I believe when the X200t was released there was a pen only version, and a pen and finger touch X200t, which was called multi-touch because it could do pen and finger. Later, Lenovo added what they called the enhanced multi-touch, which could do two fingers and the pen.
