Upgrade from an '01 r30

Hello.

I've been using this old R30 thinkpad (type 2656) for a little while, and I was very, very happy with it until the hdd failed this past weekend. I've used other laptops, but I never liked them well enough to buy, but I saw this dog used for a few dollars and bought it to experiment. I fell in love with it while running linux (puppy).

I had other issues with it: I had rigged the board battery, it seemed to run hot, and it offered low end performance and options. But, I really liked the size and layout.

Can/would you give me some advice? I'd like a machine that is the same size and has the same appearance, but I'd like something with nearly couple gigs of processor speed and RAM. I don't care about anything else because I'll just add whatever is missing. Are there popular models that would fit my needs, or is there a practical way to hunt them down?

I definitely need used; I can't justify the expense of new because I use it almost exclusively as a planner, note pad, and file cabinet. I hardly use it for multimedia.

Thanks for any and all help!

You might want to post over in the marketplace to see if anyone has anything in your price range. If you want a couple gigs of ram and CPU, I might suggest the R60. They should be fairly inexpensive without knowing your budget. Since you don't seem to need much processing power, you could go with an older Pentium M based system like a T4x, Z60 or R5x.
