RAM voltage : 2,6 V in a 2,5 V slot ?

#1 Post by thinktwice » Wed Sep 18, 2013 4:59 am

Hi,

I have a 1 Gb DDR1 400 SO-DIMM (pc-3200s) memory module from Kingston, on which is written 2,6 V.
(Reference : KVR400X64SC3A/1G)

On the RAM slot of my ThinkPad T42 is written : 2,5 V.

I read here and there that voltage is important.

The voltage required by the Kingston module is only 4 % higher than thus written on the RAM slot.

Can I use this memory module without risk, or could the small voltage difference lead to unstability, freezes, a.s.o ?

Quite possibly it will not work (not because of the voltage).
The T42 takes PC2100 or (best) PC2700 RAM.
Some PC3200 RAM is backwards compatible but not all!
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
