Hello @all,

here is my situation: I recently purchased at eBay T60p. This laptop has builtin disk + another IDE disk in the UltraBay adapter. This external disk is partitioned in such a way, that it has - among others - 2 NTFS partitions - one especially for "Rescue and Recovery"-backups (which I used in my old T43) and another as a general data store.

It came with WindowsXP, I installed Win7 Pro on it. Additionally I installed Lenovo-Software, including "Rescue and Recovery". Some days ago I wanted to configure "Rescue ans Recovery" to do daily backups on the dedicated external drive. But I could not choose that drive! Or, better to say, somehow "R&R" chose only the second partition. Precise description: when I choose "first harddrive" as a backup target, small window is schown, in which I can choose one of two available partitions on the builtin disk. But when I choose "second harddrive", second NTFS-partition (general store) gets automatically choosen for me, and I have no option to change it. As I said, on my old T43p I could use the dedicated partition.

Here is my question: how can I enforce "R&R" use partition I want to be used? Or how "R&R" chooses the target partition in this case, why doesn't it show the selection window? Are there any XML-config-files, which define, which partition must be used? I would appreciate ANY hint.

I have only used R&R with the standard IBM/Lenovo installed operating system. It works well if you create a base and then increment that with daily , weekly, or monthly updates.

If you go to advanced options in R&R you can copy to USB or CD/DVD. I create USB copies to an external USB drive. So when the hard drive goes wonky it is simple to get a replacement and use your external hard drive to recreate your system.

I hope this makes sense.

BTW, copying your backups to an external drive also makes that drive bootable so you don't really need a factory restore set of disks. All the same I do have a factory restore set on DVD. Belt and braces!

I want to use my second HDD (which is in the UltraBay adapter), but I cannot choose proper partirion to backup.

P.S. I used R&R earlier on my T43, and I was quite satisfied. OK, it's not the fastest backup tool, but it works. And it comes directly from IBM/Lenovo. That's why I try to get it working on my T60.

R&R creates a hidden partition on your main hard drive. Use this and then copy everything across to your second HDD using the advanced options in R&R.

As far as I know you cannot set R&R to work in any other way.

Hidden partition is so-called "Predesktop Area", which can be used to recover your laptop to the factory state. Since I bought a used T60, and installed Win7 instead of (originally preinstalled) Windows XP, I don't have that "Predesktop area".

You can choose a destination for you backup in both simple and advanced GUI. You have following options : first HDD, second HDD, USB drive or network.
