Ultrabay Hard Drive or External Hard Drive

I'm debating whether to get an UltraBay hard drive or an external hard drive.
Buying the Ultrabay and the hdd will cost me more than buying an external hard drive of a similar size.
I was thinking about using the external hard drive for when I'm docked in, but then my data will no longer be with me when undocked (unless I take the external hard drive along).
A good thing about an external hard drive is that it can be used with other computers.
What do you guys think?

You could buy an external 2.5" SATA HD in a case.
Then also get an Ultrabay SATA HD caddy and put the HD out of your external case in it.
That way you can use it either way, if flexibility is what you want, right?

Depends on what is more convenient. I've bought external HDD kits that were on sale at a really good price, took the HDD out and installed into my Ultrabay. I've done this a few times. This can't be done with Western Digital external HDD kit uses a HDD with a different SATA interface than is normal.

When on the road with critical data I have a SSD in the main drive bay, a HDD in the Ultrabay and an external HDD for backup.
