SSD errors on new drive - should I be worried?

#1 Post by umern » Tue Jul 01, 2014 2:41 pm

I installed a Samsung 840 EVO a few days ago into my new T440p.
This evening I got the Windows warning that I need to 'Restart to fix drive errors'

I did this and then checked the Windows Event viewer, there is a CHKDSK entry with various errors:
Examining file name linkage ... 232196 index entries processed. Index verification completed. Found 2 lost files (\Windows\MEMORY.DMP <0x2,0x14506>, \pagefile.sys <0x21,0x16b12>); requesting reconnection to index "$I30" of directory "\Device\HarddiskVolume2\found.000" ... repaired online. Stage 3: Examining security descriptors ... Found corrupt security descriptor entry at offset 0xaad90 in \$Secure <0,0x9>:$SDS ... queued for offline repair. Found corrupt security descriptor entry at offset 0xab1f0 in \$Secure <0,0x9>:$SDS ... queued for offline repair. Found corrupt security descriptor entry at offset 0x80000 in \$Secure <0,0x9>:$SDS

Also, the SMART tool on the Samsung Wizard shows various Bad Count / Fail Count values of a 100.

Should I be worried - should I return the drive and get a new one?
I previously used a Samsung 830 for two years and was not aware of any errors like this...

Thanks!

I'd definitely back up the data immediately and RMA the drive.

Yesterday.

Good luck.
