Add 2560*x or 2880*x to physical button pointing stick TPad?

Can a 2560*1440 or 2880*1600 display (screen), from one of the newer ThinkPad models, be retrofitted on any of the older ThinkPad models with the physical buttons for the pointing stick (TrackPoint, UltraNav)?

(Background:

I am looking high and low for a laptop with:
- a 2560*1440- or 2560*1600-pixel display
- a pointing stick with proper 3-button cluster

...and since I can't find one anywhere, now I'm desperate enough to consider making one.

I am hoping a 2013 X1 Carbon with 2560*1440 display from a 2014 X1 Carbon, or a W530 with 2880*1600 display from a W540 would work.)

No.

Different LCD connection makes it impossible.

the pre Haswell machines use LVDS cable, and the Haswell (and future machine) use eDP cable. So even if physically it fits, there still problem of cable connection issues.

Thanks for the replies.

There is a bit of hope here:

...but not from any laptop manufacturers!

This is possible. However, it must be done using the laptop's displayport output. The dual link LVDS that drives the stock LCD panel does not transmit enough bandwidth, even if you bought an LVDS to eDP converter board.
