LCDscreen/dirt on Liquidcrystal surface/can you mess with it

Hi ,
at the moment I am working a Thinkpad 600.
It's LCD screen has dirt stuck on it's Liquid Crystal surface [the thin solution layer between the glass and blackish LCD layer].
My question is now can you open these two panels that seem to be glued to each other and clean this liquid crystal layer surface or would you destroy it by doing so?
Many thanks.

Assuming that this is the two panes of glass that make up the actual display itself, no, you can not take those apart. Not only will you damage the screen for good, you'll also get corrosive material all over yourself.
Now, dirt in between those two panes of glass is VERY unlikely unless it happened at the manufacturing plant, so if I were you, I'd try to confirm that the dirt is not really somewhere else. Better yet, unless it's really bad, I'd try to live with it just because taking apart any part of the screen, even the parts that can come apart, is difficult, time consuming and risky unless you are experienced.

Hi AlphaKilo470,
many thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Taking that LCD apart is indeed a crazy task. I did it and was extremely happy when I could put them together at the end -and it was still working.
I had a very close look and it looks as if this dirt happened during the manufacturing.
I did have a gut feeling that the liquid crystal might be very unhealthy so I didn't break those two glass panels open . Still many thanks for confirming this.
All the best,
CF
Anyone else have this much dirt?

My T23 has gradually gotten more dust and dirt somewhere inside the LCD screen. It is getting so bad I have trouble reading small text.
I took the entire LCD out but didn't try to disassemble it.
Does anyone else have this problem? has anyone else had success cleaning it up?

My X31 had that problem too. I had the LCD replaced by IBM when I was in HK. Luckily, my X31 has a three-year warranty.
