"Flash memory maker Samsung is trying to drive a new kind of disk for PCs.

The company announced Monday that it has developed a "solid-state disk" using flash memory for PCs, which traditionally have used hard drives. The 1.8-inch NAND flash-based disks, which will be available in August, will have a capacity of up to 16GB. The first disks will target sub-notebooks and tablet PCs.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet."

SWEET, too bad its gonna cost alot though. thats still gonna be great. ill have to wait a little while, but ill have to get one for my thinkpad. wont a flash based hd consume less powere than a traditional spinning disc 2.5" laptop hd?

I imagine those 16gb will be rather pricy.

Hopefully in near future will only use solid state hard drives with faster transfer rates than current HDs. Imagine just using CF or SD card sized solid state HDs with 100GB. No noise, less heat, light as feather. Also high resolution OLED displays....
Sweeeet!!!
