Charging only when power off

Hi, please help. I just bought new L540 and have a problem: When the laptop is on, it does not charge the battery. It works on battery till complete drain, even if the power cord is attached. It says "plugged in, not charging". When laptop is off and i unplug the cord and plug it in again, then it charges well until switched on. When battery is removed, it works from power cord. I run clean installation of W8.1, but it was the same as with pre-installed W7.
Any idea how to make it charge when working?

Sounds to me like a quirk in the charging circuitry.
Time to call Lenovo and have them fix it under warranty.
Good luck.

L540 back home repaired. They just flashed bios and now it charges well. (My previous flashing was not helpful.)
Howewer, System Update stopped working, probably because in bios Machine type model is now set to "?MFG_IN_GO", System unit serial number is set to "ING?" and UUID is all zeros. Hope this will not affect future windows activation.
Not very impressed by the service, they even called to ask me for windows password.

They changed the motherboard.
UUID of all zeroes is a dead giveaway.
You should take the machine back to have the proper model/serial adjusted to what it should be.
Also, you shouldn't have supplied the hard drive when you sent the unit in for service.

Ajkula, thanks for your comment. Dead giveaway? Sounds horrible.
Such an obstruction to send it back.
What troubles could arise if I let it as it is?
(I have to argue first at my university servicedesk, and I'm afraid they will belittle the problem.)
