To the original post:

I changed my mind :)
Since I obtained one, it would be
THINKPAD 700T, TYPE 2521 :)

The 365X. It's got that crazy flip-up keyboard, it boots from a compact flash card in a PCMCIA adapter, it's the first one I put Linux on, and I still enjoy firing it up occasionally. It's absolutely my favourite, although neither the keyboard or the screen meet what I consider to be the thinkpad standard of quality.

I love small laptops.
Yes, I am quoting myself.

I made that post before owning a T410.

Now I feel my choice is the 14" widescreen T-series machine.

I am currently wanting to save up for a T430s. Wide and slim. Nice.

That being said, I'd like a 600 series machine for retro gaming. But unless one falls into my lap for free, I am not going after one. I used to have a *TON* of hardware and laptops. Now it's just my T410 and 2 Dells (a D630 which I love and an M4400 that is a beast of a C2D machine that I hold onto for testing).

It's so nice not to have my home office cluttered with what used to be in there. 8+ LCD's and 2 20" CRT's, about 12 towers ranging from PC to Macintosh to Sun. Networking cabling everywhere. Ugh. Let's not even talk about the closet in the room with the many, many boxes of cables, cards and drives.

I purged it all years ago. It feels so good to be free.

Would you like me to free you from your X61T? :)

If not considering performance/battery life/screen, I'd vote for 14.1" T61p. I think it has the best socket layout--- nothing gets in my way/gets in the way of something else, also the legendary 2503 ultrabase.
veto W701/W701ds for the stupid 3 USBs at the right front, also it's thickness makes my arms uncomfortable
veto X301 for the USB/wireless switch at the back. Personally I never enjoyed the X301 keyboard, it's a bit too hard. :/

My dream machine'd be a Sony Z13 in the form of a X61s with WWAN antenna, webcam and SXGA+ screen TBH

It would be a tough choice for me... toss-up between either the 600X or the T23...

600X: the last of the classic models, and probably my all-time favorite (can be expanded to an 850MHz processor), however the 4MB NeoMagic graphics limits what it can do today... more durable than the T2x as well

T23: Built-in WiFi and SXGA+ as an option, still somewhat viable today as well (I've run a tweaked Windows 7 on one before, wasn't too bad at least for me), however not as durable as the T30 or 600 series

Honorable mention goes to 380Z, however the use of EDO memory instead of PC66 really is a bottleneck on that machine :(
