Need advice for really good 15.4" 16:10 LCD

I need to replace some 15.4" LCD which is too dimmed and has some spots and I wonder what make/model to use for replacement - just want to have really good viewing angles and preferably brighter than usual. It's not necessary to be Lenovo branded or matte - glossy is also fine for only indoor purposes. Also no matter the resolution - I prefer using even WXGA with good characteristics than WSXGA+ or WUXGA with worse viewing angles and dimmer. And AFAIK all 15.4" 16:10 screens are 6-bit, so it also doesn't matter if it's WUXGA or WXGA. So what are you going to recommend me?

Presuming that this is a ThinkPad that we're discussing, you could go with Sharp (WUXGA found in Dells) or LG Philips (WUXGA or WSXGA+). The Sharp panel needs some modding in order to fit the LCD assembly, but is arguably your best choice, presuming that you can live with 1920x1200.

George pretty much summed it up there. I had two brand new Sharp WUXGA's (LQ154M1LW02) in my W500 and T500. Apart from the LG perhaps, nothing else comes close to it. When new, it delivers 250 nits of brightness, which is quite impressive for a CCFL WUXGA. Keep in mind however that the Sharps brightness will fade with time, just like any CCFL display, so it is crucial to acquire a brand new panel. Luckily, these can still be found from time to time. I also strongly recommend to color calibrate the Sharp, as its OOTB color reproduction is pretty horrid. (the same could be said about the LG though)

I'll vouch for the LG WUXGA and WSXGA+ displays being very good considering their TN technology. Meanwhile the Samsung display looks washed out and grainy, and is probably the worst among the three choices.

- I doubt that it will be comfortable for me to use 15.4" WUXGA. Of course I can use it on WSXGA+ or change the text size and icons, but... then it's pointless buying WUXGA.

- Are these factory installed in W500/T500?

I suppose that the LG/Philips WSXGA+ LCD is LP154W02-TL10, FRU 13N7020/42T0423 ?

No, Dell used the Sharp displays. It's rare for lenovo to ever pick the best on the market. In fact, I don't think they ever have.

Lenovo (so far) never did, but I think IBM did: the 15" UXGA 1600x1200 from IDTech as used in A31p, T42p and T43p.

Yes.

IBM actually had a hand in designing that series of LCDs and yes, for that time it certainly was the cream's crop of then-current-screens.
