Keyboard Protection-Engineering?

#1 Post by t41er » Fri Jun 03, 2005 9:48 am

I am a pretty careful person with my laptop, but that doesn't keep other people from being careless.

Imagine a roomate leaving their clothes iron next to the computer with water in it (this happpenend), or somebody at a coffee shop accidently spilling stuff on it.

So does anybody have suggestions on what sort of protective cover could be used on the keyboard? Any happy customers for a particular brand?

As important but conflicting consideration: it appears that the fan out vents through the keyboard. Has anyone used a keyboard cover to find that it interferes with the cooling?

My idea of the perfect laptop is something that could be used or survive a monsoon storm. They don't seem to make them, or at least not outside the military. Maybe IBM should put out an engineering prize for making these things even tougher. Afterall, that is why I paid 150% for a Thinkpad (over what I would have spend on another computer): Durability.

There are laptops outside of military most notably the Panasonic Toughbook. There are others too but theirs have been around a while.

I thought I read somewhere that all liquids poured onto a T40 series thinkpad would have drainage holes it could go out of. Did I read that wrong?

edit: all liquids poured onto the keyboard of a T40 series thinkpad.
