Can somebody comment on this. I don't understand why Lenovo offers a cheaper consumer model like the Ideapad Y700 (14") Laptop
with a 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6700HQ Processor (2.60GHz 1600MHz 6MB).

But fails to offer this on the Thinkpad line.. even the flagship W series models has to do with a lower CPU.

Aha, I haven't heard of the P-series (POWER?) yet. Looks nice but i'm still curious why they don't offer this on the X- T- or W- series?

P series replaces W one.

Ok, I was already assuming that the W series will be replaced by the P.

So what about the X- and T- series.. don't they deserve the better option over a cheaper consumer Ideapad?

Those cpus would probably run too hot or consume too much power in an X or T model. Also, people who buy models with top end processors would very likely go for ones with larger screens and powerful GPUs.

You see modern-day Thinkpads are not ment to COMPUTE (who needs computer that compute ), they are ment to be light and look trendy as much as possible (apple-alike).

I tend to disagree. For example in my sci work, I do computations on my x220 but only part of them. So say I do numerical simulation (which is the case). You have large cases and small testcases. Small are perfectly feasible even on Intel Core Duo - class machines. So my i7 is even too serious for those, in fact I would agree for i3/i5 (but my machine was a gift, so no choice). The "big" simulations I do on supercomputers. Those machines have usually over 4000 Xeon cores, and no batteries, hehe. (There's one nice pearl like this in Poland as well, Prometheus (AGH Cracow). France has quite a few machines in top500 too...).
So, it comes down to a simle scheme: small here, big there, no prob. Of course you might think of intermediate size simulations, and those run well on desktops.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it IS possible to do deadly-serious work (and actually compute) on anything. And 6th gen i procs will definitely land in all new Thinkpad series...

Unlikely on the X series, even though it should be possible with TDP limited to 35w.

And the new T series with skylake hasn't been released yet.

So that 6th generation is going to be an option in the upcoming T and X series?
I guess that Y700 Ideapad is newer then it would make sense.

All the new 6th generation quadcores , even the fastest one, the 6920HQ, support running at 35w TDP optionally, which make it possible to use in laptops smaller than 14".

For T series, it is quite possible, since the old T series (14" and 15") with 4th generation had quad core with 45w power.

in the X series, i doubt it, Lenovo is trying to make this series and thin and light as possible, so they will not put a quad core, .. even though it should be quite possible and won't produce allot of heat.

think W520 had the option as it had a couple better than the W700 series even. those series are called Workstations though. I think if the W701 had such options maybe they would still be sold.

For most users, battery life takes precedence over performance, so whether it's Skylake or another older processsor won't make much of a difference.
